Hennops River Hiking Trail Rooihuiskraal Historical Terrain | | | | Composition | | | | The old Centurion Municipality consisted of 12 elected ward councillors and eight proportionally elected councillors. This structure is now integrated in the Tshwane Metropolitan Council that was established on 5 December 2000. In this structure eight ward councillors
and a number of proportionally elected councillors represent Centurion.
Organisational Structure
The local management structure or administrative unit functions in 14 departments, each of which is headed by competent and well-qualified officials. All services are rendered through this administrative unit.Important Services

Available 24 hours a day Civil Defense
This function rests with the Administrative Unit. It is a standby service that combats civil disruption during natural disasters and enemy action. The service offers several
courses to the public, amongst others first aid, fire fighting, security measures, etc. Electricity
The Administrative Unit distributes electricity, supplied by Eskom, to more than 16 700 househoulds and 300 industries by means of 132 kV and 11kV networks.
One person that can try to rectify breaks by means of remote controlled equipment mans the electricity control room from 06:00 to 22:00. During major disruptions emergency phones are diverted to an answering service to allow officials the freedom
to repair faults or co-ordinate repair work. When the control room is not manned, calls are diverted via a radio control system to the duty electrician. | | | | Water and Sewage
The Administrative Unit manages the distribution of water to residents as well as the removal and processing of sewage. Cemetery Services
The Administrative Units operate three cemeteries at Olievenhoutbosch, Laudium and northeast of Centurion Centre. The OWB Honorary Acre is reserved for members of
the League of ex-Interns, the Heroes Acre is reserved for persons who died in operational duty for the country's security and the Honourary Acre for mayors and councillors of Centurion for service to the community of Centurion. Library Services | | | | |  | Centurion has an extensive library service with 11 branches in suburbs, the service centre for the aged and in military bases. Several services besides the normal loan services are also rendered. These include reference services, community information projects, Internet services,
a culture section and an art gallery. |

Animals
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) provides services regarding stray or neglected animals or animals without owners on behalf of the Administrative Unit. The SPCA also has access to animal clinics in the area. The Society manages the dog licensing system on behalf of the Administrative Unit.
The department of health services removes dead animals. A fee is payable if dead animals need to be removed from private property. Health Services
Health and preventative services is one of the most important services rendered by a local authority. The Administrative Unit provides normal clinic services, as well as a geriatric clinic where regular consultations are performed and medication is provided.
The health department also provides environmental hygiene services. This includes refuse removal and inspection of places where food is prepared and sold. Recreational Facilities
The Administrative Unit controls and manages a number of recreational facilities on behalf of the residents. | |
| | Lake at Centurion Centre
This man-made lake was created with the development of Centurion Centre on the banks of the Hennops River. Its surface area is 7,5 ha and several water sports and recreational activities take place
on the lake. |

Musical Fountain
The musical fountain is situated in the lake, directly in view of the amphitheatre in the Centurion Centre. It consists of 600 nozzles and 280 lights and provides unique entertainment for all the evening visitors to the centre. |

| | | Zwartkop Nature Reserve
This nature reserve it situated on the banks of the Hennops River in the vicinity of
Zwartkop. The site is well endowed with trees, a consistent water supply, and an interesting relief.
Many bird species occur while a number of game species were re-introduced in the reserve. This includes blesbuck, red hartebeest, springbuck, zebra and ostrich. The plants in the reserve are identified and marked. The visitor may use all the many walking trails. A lapa with braai facilities are available for hire for functions.
Hennops Rriver Walking Trail
Visitors can walk the 13 kilometres from Supersport Centurion to Zwartkop Nature Reserve. It takes approximately five hours to complete the route.
Visitors must be aware of possible changing weather conditions, particularly in summer when thunderstorms may occur in the afternoon. | | | |  |  | | Rooihuiskraal Historical Terrainn
The Rooihuiskraal Historical Terrain owes its existence to the battle for Rooihuiskraal in the First War for Freedom (1881). The terrain became a National Monument during 1981.
Here the city child gets the opportunity to meet farm life in the farm section of the terrain.
Ponies and horses have been acquired for rides during children's parties, as well as weekends and school holidays.
Two stables on the farm may be hired for private functions. |
